El Rastro Revisited and a BULLFIGHT

This morning I went to the Rastro flea market again and then an evening bullfight!

The Rastro flea market coincides with a separate event every Sunday morning at the Plaza Mayor - a coin and stamp fair! So lots of people were milling around hundreds of little booths selling historical pieces at the Plaza. The Rastro was, as always, a totally overwhelming crowd of people swarming booths selling everything imaginable. My favorite booth was army surplus from about every country, including gas masks.

I love the accordion casually slung over his back.

EL RASTRO FLEA MARKET:

In the evening I attended my first bullfight in about ten years. Pretty intense. Six bulls were fought in three hours. One matador got trampled and almost gored.....TWICE. He got up both times and finished the fight. Another one wasn't so lucky. He was gored and trampled and was carried off and out of the bullring... and was never referenced again. Another matador took his place. The bullfight was held in Madrid's Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas, the main bullring of the city. It was built in the 1920's and can hold thousands of people. Here are some pics of the bullfight and the fights...

I'll spare you pictures of the dead bulls and the details of exactly how a bullfight works... Unless you REALLY want to know.....
